Project Description
A collaborative project will be done with contacts at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (Professor Rick Adkins and his contact with the Biology Department). The project will expand an ongoing study at Lafayette College, which had preliminary findings presented at KinberCon October 2025. Poster title was “Generation of Test Images of Bacteriophages via Scanning Electron Microscopy for an AI Model”. The project will work on a collaboration to capture natural images of bacteriophages from Lafayette College's titer database using their scanning electron microscope. Natural images will be used for testing the model. There also will be opportunity to train students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on methods of imaging that are being done at Lafayette with the potential for Indiana University of Pennsylvania students to be able to carry out imaging using microscopes available at their institution. The project will take place in fall with outcomes reported by poster presentations at the next Kinbercon. The PA Science DMZ network will provide the cyberinfrastructure necessary for running the codes and integrating the large datasets used for the project.
